The Goulburn AP & H Society Inc. advise the 2016 Goulburn Show has been abandoned and the Show has been cancelled.

The cancellation of the Goulburn Show is a result of the Goulburn Mulwaree Council accepting a double booking from the Goulburn Show and the Goulburn Harness Racing Club for the use of the recreation area.

As a result of this double booking our insurer is unable to provide the necessary public liability insurance required to cover both events.

The following advice has been received from the General Manager of SLE Worldwide Australia Pty Limited “As previously advised SLE will not accept both the Goulburn Show and Goulburn Harness Racing Club holding their event on the same date and time. Any claims arising as a result of the crossover in activities would be excluded. The same scenario will also apply in respect to Goulburn Harness Racing Liability Policy as well.”

This information was first brought to Council’s attention in May 2015.

The Goulburn AP & H Society have been labelled by Goulburn Mulwaree Council in media releases as both “irresponsible” and “bloody minded” but the facts indicate the opposite. After having sought professional advice from our insurer, our legal representatives, our group president and the president of the NSW Agricultural Societies Council, we have acted responsibly and to conduct the 2016 Goulburn Show without the mandatory insurance in place would be an act of gross negligence and irresponsibility.

We have canvassed all alternate dates from 1st January 2016 through to the ANZAC weekend but due to clashes with alternate shows and a myriad of community events and after eight months of fruitless meetings we are left with no option but to abandon and cancel the 2016 Goulburn Show.

It has been suggested by some ill-informed parties that we should accommodate the harness event and move or cancel our horse events, the wood chop, the sideshow rides and other entertainment, remove the disabled car park and the showmen’s guild camping area. If we did undertake all those suggestions, and more, and remove these activities from the main area of our show all that is left is a harness racing event.

Some competitors and exhibitors may not be aware that any wins and placings gained at non-recognized events organized by alternate groups that these results would not be recorded or recognized as wins and placings at that event thus not allowing the competitors to advance their exhibit to a higher level of competition with those results.

We wish all past competitors and exhibitors well in their endeavours by continuing to promote their product and strengthening the agricultural movement and look forward to their return to the 2017 Goulburn Show.

As the Christmas festive season rapidly approaches we wish our supporters and detractors a happy, healthy and safe holiday period and look forward to your support for the 2017 Goulburn Show, and beyond, when the Goulburn AP & H Society are again organizing and coordinating the Goulburn Show.
