CATTLE

The 2008 Goulburn Show is promising to attract a great line up of stud cattle from near and far. All studs are welcome to enter to represent their breed.
Involving the local rural youth, this year the committee will endeavour to incorporate a steer show and sale with the annual paraders and junior judging competitions should numbers allow.
We anticipate that our local schools will become involved and encourage our local kids to participate, with great prizes up for grabs!

Wouldn't you like to be the judge for this section! You get to taste and sample everything, cakes and biscuits, jams and jellies. Mouth watering stuff this is.

The Jams, Jellies and Preserves Section is "Living History". Tried and true family recipes handed down through many generations are proudly put on display. Let's not forget about the new generation of recipes and produce that are turned into scrumptious jams, jellies and pickles. Young and old, experienced and novice alike, chop, stir, simmer and bottle their favourite foodstuffs. many an old cocky has stopped by the stands to admire and acquire any exhibits they can! It seems home cooking is still the best. This section is as much a feast for the eye as it is for the palate! Row upon row of different, colours, textures and produced to behold.

You can also marvel at the cake decorating section, you will be amazed at the beautiful exhibits, they look so good you wouldn't want to eat these!

FRUIT & VEGETABLES

Local produce is always an interesting display and competition.  We all know how the drought has affected our region and this year will be all the more interesting to see what growers have been able to produce.

How big will Giant Pumpkin be? How long will the longest bean be? What have we made out of vegies this year?

Last year the kid's did their best bit with an entry of a car made from a zucchini, of course you have to have a mister potato head and what can be done with a carrot. You have to have a look and a laugh, it's great fun!

SHEEP

Junior Sheep Handling Competition
This competition is staged to encourage our younger people, up to the age of 23, to be involved in the showing of sheep.

Generally, these juniors are school children who are doing Agriculture and their school runs a sheep stud, although anyone within the age criteria is most welcome.

The competition is judged on the overall handling, care, dedication, presentation, showing decorum and sportsmanship during the day.

It is valuable experience for the young enthusiast making their way into the show ring.  The long time exhibitors are always willing to offer advice or give a helping hand.

Goulburn Produce and Rural Supplies has been the generous sponsor of this competition since its inception several years ago. Entry is free.

For further information contact steward, Leah Maher 02 4844 4387.

WOOD CHOPPING

One of the most popular highlights of our show, the proud tradition of wood chopping always draws an enthusiastic crowd to cheer on the axemen. The Goulburn woodchop features competitors that hold both World and National titles.

There is nothing like being able to get close to the action the way you can at Goulburn. With each heat the excitement builds. Axe in hand, each axeman stands up to his block and takes a few practice swings. Then they are counted in. There is a flurry of flashing axes and woodchips begin to fly everywhere.

A favourite event, the tree climb showcases the great skill these specialist axemen possess.  Not only do they have to chop a block in the fastest possible time once they reach the top, they have to do it by cutting notches in the pole and placing boards into it to stand on!

The woodchop can be a dangerous sport and is very competitive. The event is held over the entire Sunday of the Goulburn Show and features some well known competitors. It is exhilarating to watch and an event not to miss.
